Disney Purchases Lucasfilm for $4.05 Billion

Here’s something that we didn’t see coming!  Today it was announced that Disney has acquired Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion  giving it all rights to the Star Wars franchise.  And what is probably the aspect of this deal that’s creating the most buzz is the fact that in 2015 we will be getting Star Wars: Episode VII!  You have to let us know what you think about that!

Here’s and excerpt from a very in depth article by Collider:

Disney has purchased George Lucas’ Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion, and has earmarked a 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII. Yes, you read that right. Not only will Disney be in command of the Star Wars empire, but a seventh entry in one of the most popular franchise of all time is in the works and set for release the same year as The Avengers 2 and Justice League.

I’m still in a fair amount of shock here, but with this move Disney has solidified its plans to take over the world as the company now houses Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm. The new was announced by both companies, so this is no hoax.

  1. To be honest, I’m still in shock over it. Not so much the fact that Disney bought Lucasfilm(we probably should have seen that coming, what with their uncanny ability to acquire something only after it makes millions), but that they are making a new Star Wars. Not only that, but it’s going to occur AFTER Return of the Jedi!
With all the fan fiction out there that occurred during that timeframe, I’m not sure what they can do that die-hard Warheads haven’t already seen. And even if they do follow the story, they don’t have the best track record for sticking with a story as it’s originally written.

In short, I’m skeptical, but trying to keep an open mind.
